Workshop on Algorithm Engineering in Optimization

The workshop was organized as a follow-up event to the very successful workshop on Algorithm Engineering for Integer Programming in Kiel. It was held in Cologne on Friday, December 3, 2010.

The main objective of this workshop was to encourage cooperation between different optimization-oriented projects within the SPP. The first half of the day was spent with nine short talks of about 15 minutes each, allowing each participant to present his/her own research focus and interests. These talks were followed by short presentations of the remaining participants/projects. The aim of these talks and presentations was to facilitate the following discussions.

During lunch and in the afternoon, there was plenty of time for discussions about possible cooperations. Due to the large number of participants (39), these discussions were organized in small groups, they were reported as being very inspiring by most participants.

The schedule of the workshop was as follows:

09:00 - 10:15  Talks 1-5
10:15 - 10:45  Coffee break
10:45 - 12:00  Talks 6-9 and short presentations
12:00 - 13:30  Lunch break
13:30 - 17:00  Discussions

The workshop was organized by Christoph Buchheim and Michael Jünger.
